I made this blizzard video as. junior at Lincoln Lutheran. This was just my second small moment video for my video editing class. This was more of a spontaneous video idea. We received a large snow storm and got a snow day followed by two zoom days. During these days we were instructed to gather footage for a small moments blizzard video. With the location of my home I found it difficult to try and be creative in making something fun out of it. I chose to keep it simple. I filmed the snow fall throughout the day, my cats coming to the door, and my dad clearing the snow. This was all for the purpose of showing what the reality of my snowday was. I think that I was able to portray that by keeping the clips feeling slow and calm.
I am proudest of certain parts of my video. one example is the transition editing clip of the snow blower with different angles/shots. I was able to edit completely different clips to fit together. Otherwise, I’d say that I am proud of the way I tried to keep it simple. I didn’t want to get carried away with trying to make things happen. it was natural and simple filming. I’m also proud that I made a semi-entertaining video about snow.
I found challenging parts of this video throughout the whole process. initially I struggled with coming up with an idea. Like I mentioned before, I did not leave my house. i wasn’t sure how I would be able to make an entertaining video about a blizzard simply by switching windows. I had difficulties trying to discover what to make of a snow video. Ultimately i decided to start filming the snowfall and see what I could gather. It took some time but I finally started getting footage other than just snowfall. Another challenge I faced during the editing process was trying to find/make structure in the video. I think my ending of completion helped allow for more of a storyline and structured process.
If I could do the project over again i think that I would try to keep it simple still but be more creative. I might try to go out into the snow myself and film the cats in the yard. if possible, it might have been interesting to try and film a four wheeler in the snow. I think that i could’ve found ways to provide more entertainment by making things happen. Overall, i tried to do as much as I could in the circumstances.
