Choose Your Own Adventure

As a junior at Lincoln Lutheran I made this video for my video editing class. This year the girls basketball team was blessed with the opportunity to qualify for state. This was only the 2nd time in school history. Adding on to that, we became the first team in school history to win a game at the state tournament. We ended up getting 3rd place. This project was a choose your own adventure, meaning we could practically do whatever kind of video we wanted. I chose to make a basketball video to remember this amazing experience. The direction I took the video in was mostly for the first game. This was a huge game for us because it was the very first time we had ever played in the arena. It was a brand new atmosphere. I wanted to focus specifically on this first game.

I am proudest of the ending of the video. I really like the way I closed the whole project with the voiceovers. I also thought that I did a pretty good job of building the atmosphere and sharing the excitement that we felt. Overall I am pretty happy with how it all came together and the way it ended.

One thing that was a challenge for me was the fact that I was playing. I was on the court which prevented me from being able to gather footage like I wanted to. I had to ask people for help so that I could have enough film to work with. Abi Wohlgemuth was able to do most of my filming on the floor. She was able to use a camera and be right next to the court. This allowed for great quality content to use. Other people weren’t able to have the same quality on their phones. Some clips are clearly blurred compared to the camera quality. It was hard for me to choose which clips to use and which ones needed to be left out. Another challenge was cutting down the video so that it didn’t drag on too much.

If I could do this video again I might consider seeking more help. I would also like to make it longer and include the other two games. Ideally i would have more footage filmed for the two following games so that I could then make a video about the entire state experience instead of just the first game.
