Choose Your Own Adventure 3 – Cutting on Action

This is my last video as a junior for my video editing class. I chose to combine my last two videos into 1 larger project. This is a video of Max Bartels golfing. I chose this as my subject because I thought it would be a good opportunity to get good cutaways and angles. I also thought the driving range would be a good place to cut together different shots and make them smooth. I really enjoy piecing together different camera angles for a seamless transition. I do wish I would have been able to put more in but there was poor planning on my part prior to filming.

I am most proud of some shots that I was able to get. I really focused on getting lots of different camera angles while there. I think I got some really cool shots. My favorite shot was straight behind the ball on the beat (1:33).

One challenge was the filming process. There wasn’t a lot of time available for me to try and gather film. Because of this, we had about an hour until they closed. It might sound like a lot but there wasn’t much time given to be patient and get the shots I wanted. I felt very rushed which didn’t allow me to get the same shot from a different angle very much. On top of this, my subject and I were there for different reasons which didn’t help the filming process.

Another challenge I faced was self inflicted. I thought it would be a neat idea to blend songs together. This is something new. I had never done it before but I wanted to try. It was a very difficult process. I ended up not liking how it sounded and scratched what I had. Going back and changing the audio completely was a little sad because I had spent so much time on it but I like the way it flows much better now.

If I were to do the project again I would focus my time on the filming process more. Ideally having more time to film would be nice but probably not likely. Better efficiency with my time would have been better. I also might have tried different songs that possibly would have been easier to blend together. Overall I think this was a good learning video for me and I’m not disappointed in the final product.
