The Bridge

“There it is,” Grace said letting out a little squeal, “The bridge!”
“What’s so special about this bridge?” I asked her trying really hard not to sound to dumb.
“You don’t know about the bridge?”
“No, should I?”
“This is gonna be fun,” she replied sending chills down my spine. The smirk on her face grew and I knew I was in for a good spook.

“It was a dark, misty night with an eerie feel. There were three girls in the car driving home. As they were crossing the bridge they crashed and all three girls were killed. The car tipped over the bridge into the creek below, hurling the girls out of the car. However, When the cops showed up the car was gone. The bodies remained lying in the creek, with a sign that read ‘HELP’ in between the girls. The cops decided to walk back up to the bridge and they called for the coroner to come get the bodies. Once they arrived they trudged down to the creek but the bodies were gone, along with the sign. They didn’t know what had happened…… To this day the spirits of the three girls remain. They live under the bridge and haunt it.”
I shook the frightened look off of my face. “Yeah right,” I replied, hoping that she couldn’t hear the fear in my voice, “No way that’s true.”
“It is though,” she said, letting a grin spread on her face. She stepped out of the car and left me with fear still in my mind.
“Hey…..” No use, she was already halfway to the bridge. I tried to build up the courage to step out but I couldn’t. Eyeballing the area ahead, I could see that there was a large number of people already here. Finally, I jabbed the door open slowly, as if it weighed 5,000 pounds. Cautiously, I stepped out of the car. My foot hit the rough gravel and I put all the weight on my one foot. I stumbled to gain my balance and awkwardly stood next to the passenger door. It must have taken over 30 seconds for me to realize how truly awkward I looked. I started to trudge on over to the bridge. The party had already started….. there was no going back now.

The temperature got warmer as we got closer to the eerie mist at the end of the bridge. Honestly, I wanted to run away and go home where I knew I was safe. I was about to pee my pants. My ears perked up as I heard voices echoing below the bridge.
“Help….”
“…Help me…”
“……Please, help us…….”
The voices kept pleading, sending chills all down my body. Now, I was completely terrified.
“Leah, come here,” Grace called to me.
“Yeah,” I replied glancing back at the car. Grace was pointing at the creek. There was strange movement down there so I reached over. Grace grabbed my feet as I leaned over even more. All of the sudden something grabbed my arm and pulled me down. Everything went dark and I couldn’t see the bridge. Grace was gone and everything. I was still there. I wasn’t dead. What is happening?
“Leah,” I heard a distant voice call. I knew it was Grace but I gave up hope as I heard footsteps fading across the bridge.
“Help,” I responded wearily. A light turned on and the three girls stood in front of me.
“That’s what we said too…. Leah”
